Crossroads

July 27th, 2008 by shawn

Over the past week I’ve had plenty of time to dissect my current position in life, my family that relies on me, and personal happiness. On one hand, I can choose to to be another cog in the machine. On the other, infinite possibilities.

Becoming a working stiff just means facing the same trials I’ve had for the past ten years. Although, it offers a sense of security for home life…. despite the fact that ’security’ can be an illusion, which was proven here recently.

Doing what I want means having personal happiness, but potentially costing me my family. After all… it wouldn’t be their fault if we lost everything we worked for.

Just by chance, would it all work out in the end? Usually it does, and if you’ve seen some of the video’s i’ve seen lately, people make life sound like it’s an incredible journey where you can do absolutely anything you want. Of course… there should be a disclaimer on these videos that state - “The people presented here, though telling the truth, grew up with silver spoons in their mouths… so if your poor…. then we can’t help you.”

Honestly, one of the people in an interview was Joe Blow such-n-such… and underneath his name was his ‘title’, otherwise known as ‘job description’ - Theologian.

WTF?!?! How the hell do you get paid to come up with theories? That’s gotta be the BEST job in the world, hands down. A job where you can just come up with random shit about things, and if your wrong, you STILL get a check! I guess it’s true - Bullshit sells, and thats the real point behind going to college.

Anyways, I’ve been contemplating telling Erin that I wanna start a business or write music and I already know she’ll support that… that’s just the kind of person she is. However, it’s a huge risk and the damages will directly affect the kids, which just isn’t fair.

Side note - Coincidentally, I’ve been running into a lot of instances lately that’s led me to this crossroad. Like the movies… they just popped on my computer or landed on the kitchen table, just by shear chance. Getting fired, and my boss telling me “security is an illusion and you shouldn’t worry about it”. Several forms of potential business ideas (whether they be selling traditional products or writing music) have quite literally landed in my lap…. and NOT in a ‘Start your own business!!!’ type of garbage advertisement.

So, if there is a god, he’s either….

A) Trying his damnedest to tell me something, short of physically appearing before me.

or…

B) Setting me up for the kill

    Did you watch The Secret?

  2. shawn

    Yeah…. why?

I thought it was pretty empowering. It’s all about your state of mind, if you keep thinking shit’s going to happen to you, then shit is going to keep happening to you.

Think positively. Act in abundance, not scarcity.

Have you thought about starting your own internet marketing company, or something along those lines? That’s something you can do from anywhere, and on your own time.

Everyone should see “The Secret” I think.

So…speaking of “God” and “life” and all that stuff…my mom’s best friend committed suicide last night…she lives in Madison, of course! Lake County=HELL…literally. Some “theologian” should look into that!

And on my birthday too, how nice. As if being 30 wasn’t depressing enough!

    FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS, SHAWN!!!!

I have only one problem with ‘The Secret’. According to it’s philosophy, you’re suppose to ‘block out the bad’.

Somehow, I don’t see ignorance as an means to an end…. know what I mean?

I believe everything happens by pure chance. Physically choosing to focus on ONLY good things doesn’t make the bad things any less real.

On a side note - IT WAS YOUR FUCKING 30TH BIRTHDAY AND YOU DIDN’T LET US KNOW?!?!?

    Damn it Summer! hehe

Well, happy birthday anyways, I’m sorry about your moms friend, and if it’s any consolation to ya…. at 30 years old, you’re still hot. ;)

Mark - Hahahah. That looks like a good read. James and I have been pondering the exact same thing for quite a while.

We see it every karaoke night, and always begs the question… WTF?!?!

  8. Joey

It’s not about blocking out the bad things. It’s looking at the crappy situations in life differently.

Yes, everything happens for a reason, we are on this planet to learn, and that’s it.

Looking at a crappy situation and beating yourself up about it doesn’t do any good. However, looking at a crappy situation and saying, “What’s the lesson here?”, is completely different. Once you learn the lesson you get to move on.

Just keep in mind that when looking at a situation always look at it from your accountability. Even if you are the “victim”, you still have accountability.

What the hell is this The Secret BS? I never heard of it. HCwDB is freakin hilarious. It seems to be a way of life around here. If me and Shawn had a camera when were are doing karaoke gigs, we could add a ton of pics to that site. Shawn I say we kick ass in Sturgis, then you follow your dreams when you get home. Don’t be a slave to the grind like me. Oh yeah Happy birthday Summer!!

Joey - It’s still the same no matter how you slice it. I’m suppose to have this ‘Grin and Bare it’ attitude.

Nothing wrong with it, it’s just it seems more like covert government propaganda, rather than a solution to a problem.

Lost your job? Just think of all that you learned while you were there!!

Can’t feed the kids? Think of it this way… they’ll be thin!!

Can’t buy gas? Walking is great exercise!!

    No what I mean?

And thanks Shawn, I still turn myself on once in awhile.

If my mom wasn’t grieving and could babsit I would’ve come up ther to the strip club for my bday…that would have been sweet!!!

  13. shawn

    That would’ve been awesome! HOT!

Anywho… I’ve got a job interview today. Hopefully they don’t get to mad when I tell ‘em I’m heading to Sturgis and won’t be back until the middle of next week.
